FESTIVAL REPORT OCTOBER 2007

The Festival was held this year in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea at Mt Wilhelm. The theme of the festival this year was “The Glory of Christ” and he alone is worthy of glory and honor and praise.

Some of the highlights this year included the blessing of nine little children and presentations by the church youth and children’s church. Two church hymns printed on cloth were a great success so the whole congregation can sing and learn to read in unity. A ground turning ceremony was also preformed for a new church building.

Many donations of clothing, wool, Bibles, books and medicines from churches in Australia and from the Australian public were gratefully received. Literacy class materials were also delivered to help in the education of the congregation and next year five women will graduate.

Inter-church cooperation between Australia and Papua New Guinea was illustrated by women from the Sydney congregation donating money to purchase a sewing machine, material and even a stove for the Mt Wilhelm church to better look after its members in the congregation. The Bathurst  congregation donated money for the printing costs of the PNG Living Today magazine. The Canberra congregation donated money for cement for the new church building in Mt Wilhelm and the Wollongong congregation donated money so Mrs. Elizabeth Genora from Port Moresby could travel to Mt Wilhelm to carry out women’s ministry and greatly encouraged the women in the congregation. Mr. Rod Matthews sent a letter to the members in Papua New Guinea, which greatly encouraged them.

An annual general meeting of the PNG church board in Port Moresby was also conducted; the church mission statement, child protection protocols and directions for church outreach were discussed. The PNG congregations wish to thank everyone for their prayers and gifts and give God the glory for the work he is doing in the region and in the lives of his people.
